At this time of year, on the weekend mornings, I get back into drinking smoothies. They are so delicious and quick to make, never mind good for you! They are also very filling.
This strawberry smoothie was the very first one I ever attempted years ago and I think it’s been my favourite smoothie since.
I didn’t want to put too many ingredients in as I am not really a fruit eater, but this was a way I could get some fruit in to my diet and I have experimented with all types, such as a blueberry and strawberry smoothie which I make often. It has a lovely purple colour to it and is also delicious! But you can use whatever fruit you like.
I always put a banana in for sweetness. I have used honey too, which is nice, but a bit too sweet for me, I prefer to use a banana instead.
The yoghurt in the picture is a natural yoghurt which works just as well (I didn’t have greek yoghurt when I was making the smoothie for this post)
2 desertspoons of Greek Yoghurt or natural yoghurt (I also sometimes use Glenisk Low fat Strawberry yoghurt)
1 banana sliced
1 tsp of Oat bran (for goodness)
250 mls of Orange Juice (not from concentrate)
In a blender, place yogurt, oat bran, strawberries, banana and orange juice (I use a hand held blender) and blend for about 1-2 minutes or until smooth and creamy. Also adding oat bran is optional.
Pour into your serving glass, serve immediately and enjoy! That’s how easy it is! It is delicious and you feel like you are drinking something really healthy!
This is my basic recipe, but you can add whatever fruits you like. Sometimes when I feel like being really healthy, I add flaxseed, Goji Berries and linseed.
As an alternative to orange juice you can use either coconut water or milk or even ice cubes crushed, the choice is yours! Try a few different things and see which you like!
